Objectives:
The project’s main objective is the comparative evaluation of soil contamination with metals in industrial areas of France and Romania, using multi-elemental and isotopic fingerprinting.

OBJECTIVES Main objective: Identification and comparison of metal pollution patterns in soils from industrial areas of France and Romania.

Specific objectives:

  • methods for the determination of stable isotopes to identify metal fluxes in industrial areas
  • evaluation of stable as isotopes for the fingerprinting of pollution sources
  • multielemental and isotopic fingerprinting of pollution sources from France and Romania
  • results dissemination
DESCRIPTION Soil is the major receptor for metals generated by anthropogenic activities. Due to metals toxicity and persistence, soil contamination with metals is an important issue, especially in industrial areas, where emissions, wastewaters and wastes with high metal loads act as the main pollution vectors. The project’s main objective is the comparative evaluation of soil contamination with metals in industrial areas of France and Romania, using multi-elemental and isotopic fingerprinting. The project will allow the development of pollution fingerprinting, identification of pollution tracers, source apportionment of polluting metals and establishment of a database with pollution sources fingerprints. The consortium consists of two research institutions with expertise in the assessment of environmental pollution by metals. Project results will allow the increase of the expertise of the team members in advanced analytical techniques for the determination of stable isotopes will underpin the development of new collaborations and will help increase the visibility of research in the two countries.
