OBJECTIVES
  • inventorying, evaluating quantitatively and qualitatively the polluting elements in their territorial distribution, favored by natural hazards (landslides, floods).
DESCRIPTION        Natural Resources of subsoil from Maramures and Satu Mare counties (polymetallic ores) have favored the development of mining, also constitutes a source of environmental pollution. Mining areas are affected by emission and dispersion of pollutant sources, over 100 years, with a strong increase in the last 50 years. The main sources of pollution are: active or closed mining sites, waste dumps, tailings ponds, ore preparation plants, metallurgical plants, the mine water, gas, dust, carrying mainly heavy metals (Pb, Zn, Cu , As, Cd, Mn, Ti, Cr, etc.), cyanides, xantined. The effect in time of process and emissions generated an heterogeneous accumulation (in time and space). The study aims to inventory, to quantitative and qualitative evaluate the polluting elements in their territorial distribution, favored by natural hazards (landslides, floods). Using SIG techniques, field mapping, complex chemical analysis, the determinate natural factors of environmental degradation will be analyzed(climatic, hydrological, geomorphological), drafted the thematic maps of natural hazards under the impact of mining activities, proposals and solutions for monitoring the phenomenon, for proper management of sustainable development in the context of European legislation and environmental protection. Harmonizing the research specific with the development strategy for the north west region, the study aims to address transboundary environmental issues, the implementation of modern methodology of young researchers (PhD / MA) and awareness of local people, supporting the local authorities and mining companies.
