Improving lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment to increase biogas yields (LIGNOBIOGAS)
Contract 16BM/2019
Contracting authority: Executive Unit for Financing Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation (UEFISCDI), Romania
Program: European and international cooperation Subprogram 3.1. Bilateral/multilateral
Description
The use of lignocellulosic biomass as a source of renewable energy is a field very timely. Romania has a considerable lignocellulosic biomass which can be used for energy production. The aim of this bilateral project is to develop, develop and apply new technologies for the recovery of lignocellulosic biomass by producing a renewable fuel (biogas). The Romanian partner has extensive experience in the development of methods and technologies for converting biomass and waste biomass into biofuels (biodiesel, bioethanol and biogas), and the French partner has a rich experience in producing biogas from organic biomass and lignocellulosic waste, determination of processing and pre-processing technological parameters. The project proposes: ♦determination the chemical composition of different types of lignocellulosic biomass (wood waste, the vineyard waste, sorghum, Mischantus, energetic crops), ♦pre-processing of lignocellulosic biomass before anaerobic fermentation (pretreatment), ♦anaerobic fermentation of untreated and pretreated lignocellulosic biomass for biogas production, ♦biogas composition analysis depending on the feedstock. By complementarity of the two research teams will develop modern technologies for the treatment of lignocellulosic biomass and converting them into biofuels (biogas).
