Objectives:

OBJECTIVES General objective
The study is direction through early diagnose and monitoring of child and teenager depression using some minimum invasive or noninvasive techniques by predicting the opportunity, security and efficacy of the antidepressive therapy following different biological markers and the evolution of the clinical frame but also by transposing the clinical results in practice in depressive children and teenagers.Specific objectives:

  • To elaborate the database;
  • To implement the database;
  • To finalize the database;
  • To create the database and the presentation CD.
DESCRIPTION DEPRESIECOPIL follows to realize a psychiatrical, psychological and biochemical assessment of depressed children before and after medication/ CBT therapy and their combination.

The porpose of this project is to:

  • study the depression, CBT and antidepressant medication;
  • pattern form development (study chart, study protocol, consent form, soft specification for computer database, validation of psychological tests);
  • realize the patient study groups;
  • make the psychiatric, psychological and biochemical assessments, the database design;
  • make assessment of the patient groups under antidepressant medication, CBT and both, results of clinical, psychiatric and psychological features, biochemical assessment results, centralized computer database.
RESULTS ESTIMATED
  • compare efficacy of assessed interventions (medication, psychotherapy);
  • dynamical changes of biological markers during interventions;
  • write a monograph on depressive disorders in children and adolescents with emphasis on clinical peculiarities according to age;
  • the project will adjust on large scale for the first time in Romania, through a randomised clinical trial, psychotherapies used abroad (CBT), contributing to the development of scientifically validated psychotherapy in Romania;
  • the study will develop into a pilot center that will implement the therapy strategies to other centers through training programs.

Benefits of the project
The project will contribute to the development of this field of child psychiatry and will allow development of fundamental concepts with implications for international ethiopathogenetic theories, early diagnosis and management, prevention of relapse in depressive disorders of children and adolescents, which will entail decrease of management and health care costs, significant improvement in intervention result, better social and academic reinsertion of afflicted children and adolescent

RESULTS OBTAINED

Stage II
Period: Nov. 2006-July 2007

  • Developing patients groups, examining, gathering and analyzing the samples, completing the consent forms.
  • Elaborating and realizing the database:
    • Elaborating a form to gather and introduce the biochemical data of the subjects;
    • Elaborating a form to gather and introduce the data of depresion degree of the subjects;
    • Elaborating a form to gather and introduce the data of the psychological evaluation of the subjects;
    • Elaborating a form to gather and introduce the data of the somatic evaluation of the subjects;
    • Elaborating a form to gather and introduce the data for somatic monitoring of the subjects.

Stage III
Period: Aug. 2007-Dec. 2007

Management of the patients included in the pharmacological therapy, psychotherapy or both combined. Completing the database.

In the generated database the dates from every studied subject folder were included.

  • The study has 45 subjects, the first visit was for all subject group;
  • At first visit all the measurements, analyses were made, all the questionnaires for this study were completed. At all the next visits questionnaires were completed and at some of them the somatic evaluation data, the biological samples, EKG, EEG were made again;
  • 30 subjects were introduced in the database with all the visits that were made.

Stage IV
Period Dec. 2007 – June 2008
Treatment administration, psychiatric, psychological, somatic evaluation and reevaluation.
The elaboration, analysis and interpretation of data.

  • All the fields of the database were completed with results obtained for all the patients of the study;
  • The analysis and the graphics were realized starting from the database with all the information referring to the patients, information contained in the database on SPSS platform.

Stage V
Period: June 2008 – Oct. 2008

Disseminate the results.

  • Articles editing; book elaboration; scientific communication; Web page; presentation CD; round table for results presentation.
