OBJECTIVES
  • The extension of the range of non-invasive clinical methods employed to analyze dental color by chromometric and spectrophotometric methods, as well as by computerized analysis of digital images;
  • Establishing the staining capacity of certain restorative dental materials and of certain colorants used in soft drinks in the domestic industry upon dental structures;
  • The production and the physicochemical description of a group of dental peroxide-based biomaterials intended for the treatment of certain clinical forms of dental color changes;
  • They will be experimentally tested in the laboratory and the results will be compared with existing products at the moment on the market.
DESCRIPTION DENTCOLOR aims to study statistical on the correlation between dental color changes and determining factors – beverages, food, oral hygiene solutions and potentially staining medication – or with favorizing factors – discontinuities in the structure of hard dental tissues.
Large groups of patients of different ages and professions have to be examined for color changes caused by food (potentially staining beverages). The following will be assessed:

  • the dental color on the vestibular and oral surface of anterior teeth used as reference. Standard examining conditions are required and they include the degree and spectrum of the light source used in the dental office, the color shade guide used as reference, the dental area assessed for color changes;
  • the type of staining;
  • the degree of coloring;
  • the luminosity in reference points using the Vitapan 3D Master shade guide;
  • the correlation between smoking and certain eating habits and dental staining;
  • patients previously treated with local or general potentially staining medication will be excluded.

Laboratory analyses of extracted teeth and samples of dental restoration material –the staining potential of natural or synthetic dyes from beverages on the Romanian market.
Creating experimental models based on peroxides for treating color anomalies in dental structures.
Experimenting these products in parallel with widely used products for treating in vitro clinical forms. The improvements in dental color and the effects on contact tissues during treatment are studied.
The current project aims to study both the therapeutical qualities of dental biomateials used for improving color in extracted teeth and possible adverse effects occurring in the structures.
The novelty of the project lies in the fact that it approaches the issue of dental dyschromia for the first time in Romania. It aims to correlate ethiopathogenetic diagnostic aspects with aspects of non-invasive treatment of color changes. The results obtained would be of special interest for national and international esthetic dentistry.

RESULTS ESTIMATED To evidence:

  • their therapeutic effects on improving dental color and the side effects of these products upon the contact tissues during therapy will be analized. In vitro studies will be conducted on samples of hard structures;
  • extracted teeth, by colorimetric and spectrophotometric analysis and by computerized analysis of the digital images on the dental surface. The secondary effects will be studied in vitro by optic and electron microscopy and also by laboratory analy1sis and by NMR
